Are you seeking support in navigating a transition in your life and/or in your career?
Are you feeling stuck, feeling like you are spinning your wheels and want to get some traction to move forward on what you tend to postpone?
Are you in midlife and wondering what course corrections to make before “it is too late?”
Are you approaching retirement or feel that retirement is approaching you before you are ready?
The phases of a transition often involve experiencing the emotions and challenges of an ending, living with uncertainty and asking ourselves big questions, before we can determine what is next.
When the circumstances of your life change, it becomes beneficial to look at your life and career as a whole to determine if changes need to be made or if some course corrections are desired. At other times, these career or life changes seem outside or your own control. Regardless of the circumstances, getting skillful support will often help you determine where you are currently, what are some your aspirations and some possibilities, and what you can do next to get “unstuck” and to move forward.
I have helped a number of people to navigate life and career changes by taking a holistic approach that incorporates our making sense together of your:
- life stage and career phase
- aspirations and talents
- sources of meaning and purpose for a fulfilling career and life
- life-career successes and patterns and “career anchors”
- tendencies to avoid, contradict or sabotage your own progress in your life or career
Of course, I tailor the approach to the individual client as together we reflect on your own life and work story, use some reflective tools and inventories to inform our collaboration, and then support you in exploring options and taking actions.
In this collaborative work, I incorporate an narrative approach to help you discern patterns and values in your own life-career story and use a relevant approaches to help you move beyond being stuck, uncertain or overwhelmed. Depending upon your goals we may incorporate Mindfulness Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, Career Anchors, visual planning tools, Career Maturity Inventory, Leadership Circle Inventory, homework in between sessions, etc.)
Facing hurdles as I attempted to make a career change, I reached out to Larry for help. From our very first meeting, I felt empowered. He listens well and helped me to focus on my most important goals. He led me through the process of assessing my strengths, weaknesses, skills, and most importantly, encouraging me to discover my passion. The result of our work together was a fantastic new job, a fun new city, and a better sense of who I am as a person and a professional.” -Michael C.
